MAXFERM/PRO MAINTAINS GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS OF GROWER PIGS FED A LOW CRUDE PROTEIN DIET

SOLID-STATE FERMENTATION PRODUCT TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABILITY

Long-term sustainability strategies in swine production aim to reduce the excess supply of amino acids, reduce protein fermentation, and minimize nitrogen excretion and emissions. Therefore, feed ingredients that increase the feeding value of diets warrant study. MAXFERM/PRO is a dried fungal fermentation product produced by fermenting plant substrates with fungi to increase nutrient digestibility and animal performance. In addition, MAXFERM/PRO is a postbiotic that strengthens gut integrity by modulating cell turnover, structure and permeability of epithelial cells, and anti-inflammatory effects.

A study assessed the effect of MAXFERM/PRO in a low crude protein diet on growth performance and carcass characteristics in grower-finisher pigs. As a result, growth performance and carcass characteristics were not affected by the dietary treatment. Thus, MAXFERM/PRO might have improved diet nutrient digestibility maintaining growth performance. In conclusion, grower-finisher pigs can be fed 500 ppm of MAXFERM/PRO in diets formulated below the amino acid requirements without reducing growth performance.
